Bird Tracking 2025 August-October
Golden-crowned Kinglet

It’s been so rough looking for birds this fall. I think all of the migratory species went around the area and just passed on by. At any rate, I do have a few species to add to the year list and some of them are pretty cool! I also managed to get in two new lifers, which is always a plus.

I can never really tell hawk species apart from each other most of the time when I look at them. So I was delighted to add this lifer Swainson’s Hawk to my list. Turkey Vultures are always a must to photograph, and I really love how this shot turned out.

I didn’t see many shore birds this fall, which feels unusual but I did get this shot of a Solitary Sandpiper. (He was indeed all alone and living up to his solitary name!) I never see Eastern Bluebirds, so I was beyond excited when I saw a pair of them this day and managed to get a really beautiful shot. I absolutely love this one.

And for my last bird for this post, the elusive Golden-crowned Kinglet. This bird took me a few weeks to finally get a photo of, and it was definitely worth it. These birds are SO fast, blink and you’ll miss them. So this felt like such a win for me. This bird was also a new lifer for the list, and makes 139 for the year total species.
