The feeders have been really busy this month with the warmer temps. I’ve had a lot of the normal visitors, but also a few odd and not so frequent ones. I think my favorite has to be this really beautiful Common Grackle that had an interesting patch of white above his eye. Mourning Doves have returned and tend to hang around later in the evening, and they love to take little naps on my driveway.

Red-winged Blackbirds are not a common visitor for me, but I’ve had anywhere from one to five visiting. They’re very loud and they definitely love to eat. Chipping Sparrows have also returned, and I really enjoy watching them at the feeders. A real rarity for me though, was the Purple Finch. This little female didn’t hang around for very long, but it was really cool to see her! It makes me hopeful I might see more once in a while.

I saw Dark-eyed Juncos pretty frequently in the beginning of April, but towards the middle of the month, they seem to have moved on to head back up north. I have a cute little pair of European Starlings pop in every now and then for a snack, and the one really loves to stuff herself inside of my suet feeder. It’s not the intended used, but she really looks cute!

Downy and Red-bellied Woodpeckers have both been somewhat elusive lately due to nesting, but they seem to be coming around quite a bit more often now and I really love that. Harris’ Sparrows and House Finches have also been really popular and come around at all times during the day to eat.
