Global Big Day is an annual worldwide birdwatching event organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, held every second Saturday in May—this year on May 10, 2025. Bird enthusiasts of all experience levels are encouraged to participate by observing and recording as many bird species as possible within a 24-hour period, from any location: a backyard, local park, or even while hiking. Observations are submitted using the free eBird app or website, contributing to a global database that helps scientists monitor bird populations and migration trends. In 2024, over 156,000 checklists were submitted in a single day, demonstrating the event’s growing impact. Beyond being fun and engaging, Global Big Day plays a vital role in bird conservation, offering researchers valuable data that shapes environmental strategies. It’s free to join, and getting involved is easy—just download the eBird app, create an account, go birding on May 10, and upload your sightings. Whether you’re a beginner or seasoned birder, it’s a meaningful way to enjoy nature while contributing to a global cause.

I saw and photographed a TON of beautiful birds today and I’m super excited to share what I got, enjoy!
